Drugs Awareness Course

A Distance Learning Course of 4 Lessons
Course Description

This programme is designed to assist people who teach or work with young people and feel that they would benefit from having an education in drugs related issues.

This would include all those employed in secondary education and beyond, as well as Outreach Workers, Parents, Care workers and affiliates of all other youth orientated organisations.

The course is designed to unearth some common misconceptions about drugs in our society and to demystify this often un-broached, but widespread, aspect of youth development today.

It is intended to increase understanding of the drugs made available to young people and to enhance the knowledge of how best to tackle and treat the problems they create.

Course Syllabus

An Introduction to Drug Use

A history of drug use, terms and laws / Defining drug categories / Depressants.

Stimulants, Hallucinogens and Tranquillisers

Other Harmful Substances, which are Legally Available

Drug Use

Various interventions / Treatments and preventions / Key National Organisations.

Qualifications

On completion of your course, you will receive two qualifications:

Qualification 1: Drugs Awareness Certificate

Drugs Awareness Certificate issued by Stonebridge Associated Colleges, entitling you to use the letters SAC Cert after your name.

Qualification 2: ASET Level 2 Drugs Awareness Award

The Award has been designed by a learning provider to meet specific learners' or employers' requirements and as such is not listed as a qualification on NQF. While the duration, content or assessment may vary from similar national qualifications, in accrediting the programme at level 2, ASET attests that its learning outcomes are at an equivalent level to a level 2 national qualification.
