The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/shephyken\/2015\/04\/23\/oldest-customer-service-complaint-discovered-a-lesson-from-ancient-babylon\/#42bdbc335a06\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">oldest written customer complaint<\/a> found dates back to 1750 BC.&nbsp;It was written by a&nbsp;client to his supplier,&nbsp;requesting a refund.&nbsp;In 2016, we still&nbsp;have expectations&nbsp;of a product or service we buy. Many of us will complain if we aren&#8217;t satisfied.<\/p>\n<p>In today&#8217;s world of social media, online reviews and instant feedback, we have more ways than ever before of expressing our views. As a result,&nbsp;it has become more personal. We&#8217;re less likely to&nbsp;hide behind an anonymous&nbsp;letter. Instead,&nbsp;we get in touch&nbsp;from&nbsp;our own&nbsp;accounts, using our full name and picture. The shy British complainer no longer exists.<\/p>\n<p>Giving feedback is&nbsp;simultaneously more public. Customers post directly&nbsp;to a company&#8217;s Facebook page or Tweet their dissatisfaction. There is a&nbsp;growing demand for&nbsp;a choice of contact points. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/media-network\/2015\/may\/21\/customer-complaints-social-media-rise\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">A 2015 study<\/a> found that one in four UK social media users had complained in the previous&nbsp;three months.&nbsp;Businesses&nbsp;must now respond to queries, address reviews and resolve complaints coming from all directions. So why bother? To a multi-million pound company, what&#8217;s one unsatisfied customer?<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Your feedback does make a difference<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Successful businesses build themselves&nbsp;around the consumer.&nbsp;Savvy companies now see customer&nbsp;service as&nbsp;an&nbsp;opportunity to&nbsp;open lines of communication with the&nbsp;people who matter most.
