According to a study&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mentalhealth.org.uk\/our-news\/news-archive\/2015\/2015-05-11-mental-health-awareness-week-2015\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">1 in every 3 people<\/a> have said that they feel stressed. Stress is our body\u2019s way of telling us we need to <b>slow down<\/b> a little. It can be in the form of <b>physical<\/b> or <b>emotional responses<\/b>. Today is <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.isma.org.uk\/about-national-stress-awareness_2015\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">National Stress Awareness Day<\/a><\/strong>, helping to highlight the signs of stress and help people cope and to de-stress. Looking out for the warning signs is important, as stress can lead to more serious health problems such as <b>high blood pressure, obesity and depression.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re getting <b>irritable<\/b> or <b>snapping at people close to you<\/b>, it might be because you\u2019re stressed. We often don\u2019t realise we\u2019re stressed until it\u2019s too late, if you\u2019re experiencing any of the following, you might be experiencing stress<\/p>\n<h2>Signs of stress:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Change in sleeping patterns (i.e Difficult falling asleep, regularly waking up)<\/li>\n<li>Feeling anxious<\/li>\n<li>Irritable<\/li>\n<li>Racing thoughts<\/li>\n<li>Headaches<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Although there\u2019s no way to stop yourself getting stressed, there are plenty of things you can do to <b>cope with stress<\/b> and <b>manage the symptoms.<\/b><\/p>\n<h2>What you can do to relax:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Breathe deeply<\/b> \u2013 It might seem silly, but studies have shown that controlling your breathing is a great way to calm you down. It can be done anywhere and only takes a couple of minutes<\/li>\n<li><b>Go for a walk<\/b> \u2013 This doesn\u2019t have to be an hour long trek, it could just be around the block, but the fresh air and exercise will do wonders for you<\/li>\n<li><b>Switch off<\/b> \u2013 We\u2019re all glued to our phones, tablets and laptops. Try taking a break, read a book or make a cup of tea. It\u2019ll still be there when you get back!<\/li>\n<li><b>Think positively<\/b> \u2013 Picture this, you\u2019re driving to work, there are road works and the traffic is awful. You can feel yourself getting worked up and you start panicking &#8211; you\u2019ll miss those important deadlines, your boss will give you a warning. Stop and think about it differently, you\u2019ve got an extra 10 minutes to yourself \u2013 why not practice those breathing techniques?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Many people experience stress throughout their lives. It can in the form of <b>job stress, money worries, family difficulties<\/b> and even <b>long commutes<\/b>.
