{"id":6637,"date":"2016-05-18T10:42:08","date_gmt":"2016-05-18T09:42:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stonebridge-blog.positive-dedicated.net\/?p=6637"},"modified":"2021-11-25T16:38:56","modified_gmt":"2021-11-25T16:38:56","slug":"what-are-the-symptoms-of-anxiety","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.stonebridge.uk.com\/blog\/cbt-counselling-and-psychotherapy\/what-are-the-symptoms-of-anxiety\/","title":{"rendered":"What are the symptoms of anxiety?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">It\u2019s Mental Health Awareness Week, with a focus on relationships.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>We&#8217;re taking a look at the symptoms of anxiety,&nbsp;what to look out for&nbsp;in our friends and family and what we can do to help.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Symptoms of anxiety include:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Problems sleeping<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Restlessness<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Dizziness<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Irritability<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Tense muscles<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Heart palpitations<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Feeling sick<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is a panic attack?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A panic attack is an intense feeling of anxiety, which often happens&nbsp;with physical symptoms, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Shaking<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Hyperventilating<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Sweating<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In most cases panic attacks are not dangerous, but anyone suffering from them should speak to a doctor if they happen regularly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Types of anxiety<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Anxiety can&nbsp;appear in different ways, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Health anxiety&nbsp;<\/strong>&#8211; sufferers have a constant fear that they are suffering from illness. They may worry that they have a range of conditions, or obsess about one type&nbsp;of illness.<\/li><li><strong>OCD<\/strong> &#8211; obsessive compulsive disorder describes a condition that causes people to have obsessive thoughts, which&nbsp;leads to&nbsp;anxiety. Sufferers usually have a compulsive need to check things, a fear of contamination, problems with hoarding or repetitive, harmful thoughts.<\/li><li><strong>Phobias<\/strong> &#8211; people can suffer from anxiety about certain places, objects or social situations. Fears become phobias if they prevent sufferers from living a normal life. Common phobias include animals such as spiders, fear of being in certain situations, such as heights, and fear of medical procedures like having an injection.<\/li><li><strong>Generalised anxiety disorder <\/strong>&#8211; anxiety on most days, about many different things, can be very debilitating. Common symptoms include not being able to sleep,&nbsp;getting irritable quickly and feeling restless.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How can you help?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Look out for the symptoms of anxiety in other people.<\/li><li>Let someone with anxiety talk to you about their feelings and don&#8217;t brush them off as being small issues.
