Qualification: Open College Network West Midlands Access to Higher Education Diploma (Medicine & Healthcare Professions)
On successful completion of the Open College Network West Midlands Access to Higher Education Diploma (Medicine & Healthcare Professions) you will receive a QAA recognised Access to HE Diploma at level 3 (QAA ref: (400/0883/6). This course has also been assigned 60 credits.
Requirements for Entry
You can start your Access to Higher Education Diploma (Science) – Medicine and Healthcare Professions Pathway today. However, you need a GSCE in Maths and English (or equivalent) at grade C/4 or above by the time you apply to university.

This is because these qualifications are a common requirement for entry to most universities and degree-level study. You should also have a desire to study a degree related to the subject of your diploma. If you do not hold these GCSE qualifications, then you must be working towards them whilst completing your Access to Higher Education Diploma.
Given that Access to HE Diplomas are widely regarded as an equivalent to 3 A Levels, most universities will accept them as part of their entry requirements. It is important to note, though, that each university has its own admission criteria, and some may differ from course to course. These can include, but not be limited to:
- A certain number of credits passed with a merit or a distinction grade
- A face-to-face interview at the university
- Literacy and numeracy assessments provided by the university
- Course-related work placements or work experience
- GCSE Grade C/4 or above in Maths and English (or equivalent Level 2 such as Functional Skills/Key Skills etc.)
