About Your Diploma

The healthcare and medical science sector is wide and vast, so if you are keen to pursue a career in this field, you will need to learn to start at the beginning and delve into the academic side of this industry.

For those of you who are keen to kickstart your learning journey but feel that you’re not in a position to commit to the cost of a full course, then take advantage of our split option.

Instead of studying our Access to Higher Education Diploma (Science) – Medicine and Healthcare Professions Pathway in its entirety, you can study Part 1 and Part 2 separately. This gives you the flexibility and freedom to break up the course and progress on to the next stage when you’re ready.

Not only that, but when enrolling on Part 1, you can spread 50% of the course fee over an extended period of time, easing any financial pressure. You have two years to complete each stage, a longer timeframe than the full course, which requires you to complete it in two years.

Keep in mind, though, that you can complete each stage much quicker if it suits your circumstances, and if you finish Part 1 in less than two years, you will get a discount on Part 2!

There are a range of topics that you will explore when studying Access to Higher Education Diploma (Science) – Medicine and Healthcare Professions Pathway – Part 1, including a combination of academic topics and study skills.

You will explore the electromagnetic spectrum, periodic table, cell metabolism, cell division, as well as how to write academically, getting you prepared for degree-level study.

An Access to Higher Education Diploma is designed for learners who want to go to university but do not have the A Levels that are usually required for acceptance. With an Access to HE Diploma being the equivalent of 3 A Levels, most universities accept this Level 3 qualification as an alternative to A Levels.

However, it is important that you check with your chosen university before applying. Please note that you can only achieve your nationally accredited diploma once you have completed Part 1 and Part 2.

Getting Started

Our split course option gives you the space and freedom you need to spread out your studies and the cost of it, but you also benefit from studying your Access to Higher Education Diploma (Science) – Medicine and Healthcare Professions Pathway – Part 1 online.

Through our industry-leading online platform, you will get access to all the course materials you need to complete your studies. This will enable you to work from the comfort of your own home, scheduling your study time around your existing commitments.
You will be issued with an Individual Learning Plan, which will outline the submission deadlines of your assignments, helping you keep track of your studies. You will also benefit from tutor support, and you will get the advice you need from our dedication support team.

After completing Part 1 of the course, you have the freedom to choose when to enrol on Part 2. There is no pressure on you to enrol immediately, but it is possible to complete both Part 1 and Part 2 in less than a year, if your circumstances allow. Remember, if you complete Part 1 in less than two years, you will get a discount on Part 2!

Requirements for Entry

You can start your Access to Higher Education Diploma (Science) – Medicine and Healthcare Professions Pathway today. However, you need a GSCE in Maths and English (or equivalent) at grade C/4 or above by the time you apply to university.

This is because these qualifications are a common requirement for entry to most universities and degree-level study. You should also have a desire to study a degree related to the subject of your diploma. Given that Access to HE Diplomas are widely regarded as an equivalent to 3 A Levels, most universities will accept them as part of their entry requirements. It is important to note, though, that each university has its own admission criteria, and some may differ from course to course. These can include, but not be limited to:
  • A certain number of credits passed with a merit or a distinction grade
  • A face-to-face interview at the university
  • Literacy and numeracy assessments provided by the university
  • Course-related work placements or work experience
  • GCSE Grade C/4 or above in Maths and English (or equivalent Level 2 such as Functional Skills/Key Skills etc.)
Students wishing to gain entry to higher education at the end of this diploma should conduct some preliminary research on the entry requirements as soon as possible, to avoid disappointment. Each learner is responsible for researching the entry criteria and ensuring they meet the requirements.
