About your Course

This Playwork is a recognised approach to learning and development in young children in which the children themselves control the direction of the play. The principle behind playwork is it encourages adaptability and resilience, allowing children to feel more comfortable with trying new things and learning from their mistakes. It’s a recognised method of learning that allows children to push boundaries and try new things in a safe environment.

If you work with children or are considering a career in childcare or education, this online course will provide you with a unique approach to child development.

This Level 3 online diploma will teach you the principles of playwork and an understanding of self-directed play. You will learn the organisational framework of play, how to plan self-directed play and how to support positive outcomes for children and young people.

You will also understand relationships in the play environment and how to promote positive relationships and self-development through play.

This course will also teach you the key legislation and safeguarding surrounding children and young people as well as the essential health and safety guidance to keep children safe.

As part of the assessment for this qualification, you will be required to undergo direct observation in a suitable environment. 

Getting Started

The NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Playwork will give you the skills, knowledge and understanding required to be a playworker at Level 3 based on the National Occupational Standards.

On completion of your CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Playwork (NVQ) qualification you will either be able to go into employment, or continue your studies within the education sector.

The course is delivered online, giving you the flexibility to study at a pace that fits into your day-to-day routine. As part of your studies, you’ll be required to obtain relevant work experience. This can be in paid employment or through voluntary work or placement. This will allow your tutor to assess and observe your knowledge and skills in a real work situation. Suitable settings include:

The average completion time for this course is 12-18 months.

Assessement requirements

Assessments will be carried out using various evaluation mediums such as, observation of practice, witness statements, reflections, case studies, placement log and written questions.

Placement or Practical required

Learners will need to be working or have a placement in a suitable environment. Learners will need to demonstrate competence in both knowledge and skills in a play environment for ages 4-16 years as there will be direct observations carried out by our Assessors. The learner must have a supervisor or manager who can verify work, when necessary, as per the criteria. Note: The term verify does not mean the same as 'signing work off' – This will be someone who can confirm that the learner did what they are stating. Our assessor will make the judgement as to whether the work submitted meets the criteria.

If placement or practical required, when?

Work placement is required throughout the qualification.

Observation by us required

Direct Observations by our Assessors, in the work environment, are required with this course.

Certification Timeframe

You can expect to receive your certification within 12 weeks of successfully completing the qualification. Please note this can be longer if a EQA sample is required
