Studying your GCSE

Biology is one of the most fascinating and rapidly developing fields to study. For all we know about the human body and the natural world, we’ve barely scratched the surface.

Studying GCSE Biology – on its own or with other core science subjects – will build your understanding of the world around you. You’ll develop a solid grasp of the fundamentals of biology and be able to study further at A Level or beyond.

You will study a number of different topics including cell biology, infection and response, and ecology. You will also discover how these topics are all connected.

Included in this course bundle, in addition to the course material, you get the exam you need to gain your GCSE.

Your exams will be at an exam centre near to you. We will aim to find you a place within 50 miles of your postcode, subject to centre capacity and exam availability.

The exams will further test your knowledge and are essential for you to receive your qualification. You’ll need to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the key biological components you’ll have learnt about throughout your course.

By the time you have completed your course, you will have a comprehensive understanding of biology including key theories and principles. This will enable you to develop your knowledge further through the study of A-level or an Access to HE Diploma.

Getting Started

Stonebridge Associated Colleges is a leading distance learning college so unlike traditional GCSE courses, you don’t have to attend classes.

This allows you to complete your learning in a space that works best for you. At a time that works best for you too. The only timetable you have to follow is the one that fits around your life. Not the other way around.

Once you are enrolled on the course you can start learning straight away. All the course material will be made instantly available to you via our online portal. The only specific deadline to work towards is your exam – exam sittings are held once per year in May or June.

That means that you can study your GCSE in Biology as quickly as you choose.

You will have a dedicated tutor to support you throughout. They will be on hand to answer questions and to mark assignments and provide feedback. So, you can see what you’ve done well at and what needs improvement.

As you progress through your course, you will study the following modules:

  • Introduction to Science
  • Cell biology
  • Organisation
  • Infection and response
  • Bioenergetics
  • Homeostasis and response
  • Inheritance
  • Variation and Evolution
  • Ecology

At the end of each unit you will find an end of unit assignment. This is completed online and submitted to your tutor. Once assessed your tutor will return your work complete with its final grade and feedback. Once you’ve successfully passed each unit you’ll be ready to take your exam!

All instalment plans must be paid and up to date before an exam can be booked. In addition, exams cannot be booked for dates before the final payment is successfully made. For example, if two monthly payments are due in the future, an exam can be booked, but the exam date will be after the final payment is received.
