Studying your GCSE

A GCSE in Economics will enable you to study how society deals with the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services, using finite resources.

By studying this course, you will understand how markets and economies work, develop critical thinking, and analytical skills. You will also gain a solid grasp of economic issues such as how the Government manage the economy.

Your Economics GCSE will teach you how markets work, factoring in production, market mechanisms and prices. You will understand how economies work on a national and global scale and the role governments play in economic growth.

Each unit will challenge you to understand the multitude of moving parts that contribute to a thriving economy.

At the end of your course you will be able to build on the knowledge gained and progress to A level study or an Access to HE Diploma.

Getting Started

Studying your GCSE with Stonebridge Associated Colleges isn’t like traditional courses. We are an online based institute, so all your learning materials and assignments are online. No classes, no timetables and no waiting for books in the post.

This allows you to study your GCSE in a manner that suits you that means you can balance your studies and your existing commitments. The only specific deadline to work towards is your exam – exam sittings are held once per year in May or June.

Once you are enrolled, you can start learning straight away. You will have a personal login that will give you instant access to the student portal. 

You will also be assigned a tutor to help you throughout your Economics GCSE. They will mark your assignments, provide guidance and give feedback. 

As you progress through your course, you will study the following modules:

  • Economic foundations
  • Resource allocation
  • How prices are determined
  • Production, costs, revenue and profit
  • Competitive and concentrated markets 
  • Market failure 
  • Introduction to the national economy
  • Government objectives
  • How the government manages the economy

  • The role of money and financial markets

At the end of each unit there is an assignment to complete. Once this has been completed and submitted to your tutor he or she will respond with your grade as well as detailed feedback. Following successful completion of each unit you’ll be exam ready!
