Functional Skills are the basis of any future learning you do, your life and work. Maths can be found in everyday life. From understanding a discount voucher, to baking a cake, there will always be a need for mathematics in our lives.

While algebraic formulae may not be a part of daily life, the basics of maths are everywhere, whether it is a garage a bakery or the hairdressers. More importantly, a lack of these basic skills is a true barrier to employment – people with low maths skills are twice as likely to be unemployed.

This Level 2 Maths Functional Skills – Standard course consists of 3 sections. The first one focuses on numbers and teaches you how to navigate everything from addition and subtraction to decimals, fractions and percentages. The second section delves into notions of physics, such as time, speed, distance, weight and temperature. The final section looks at working with data. You will learn how to read charts and graphs, use probability and averages, and spot patterns in data to help you make better decisions.
