Home based childcare services provide essential support to working families with young children. They provide a safe, fun and enriching environment giving children a home away from home in which to develop.

If you’re considering starting your own home based childcare business, this course will provide you with the essential knowledge you need. The qualification has been developed in collaboration with the Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years (PACEY).

You will learn key legislation including safeguard, child protection and health and safety laws. You will also understand how to structure day-to-day routines for the children in your care and how to support their learning and development.

This online course will teach you how to set up your own home based childcare business including how to manage the financial taxation elements. The course also covers how to create a business plan and how to register your home based childcare service with Ofsted.

Getting Started

The Preparing to Work in Home Based Childcare CACHE Award Level 3 RQF (601/3527/X) qualification will allow you get your home based childcare business off the ground.

This qualification is also suitable for anyone wanting a role as a nanny, au pair or childminding assistant.

Your course can be completed entirely online and does not require a placement to qualify. All you need to do is enrol and you can start your learning the same day.

  • Understand how to work in partnership to support children’s outcomes.
  • Understand children’s learning and behaviour in relation to sequence, rate and stage of development.
  • Understand the value of play in promoting children’s learning and development.
  • Understand the role of observation in promoting children’s learning and development.

Unit Two: Preparing to set up a home based childcare business (K/506/4746)

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand how to lead and manage a home based childcare setting.
  • Understand how to comply with financial and taxation requirements when setting up a home based childcare setting.
  • Understand how to create a business plan.
  • Understand how to register with the appropriate regulatory body.
