Study Guide

This guide is designed to help you with your study. It will help you to work more efficiently, manage your time, improve your presentation of work, increase your ability to remember information, and get the most out of your chosen course.

Improving Learning Skills Course

Studying is more than gathering information, and reproducing it, in assessment tasks, such as essays and examinations. Studying involves knowing how to approach a problem, analyse it, identify what you already know and decide how to gather more information, and much more. This short course will help you gain and improve your study skills.

Course outline

Studying is an active process. Open learning materials enable adult learners to take responsibility for their own learning. This course has been prepared as an open learning resource for people who wish to undertake a learning programme that involves them preparing for a period of studying.

You can use this course, as an active learner, to identify:

  • what you know already
  • what you need to know

Job Interview Skills Course

It is about presenting yourself in the most authentic way that takes care of you and the interviewers at the same time. People can throw their chances away if they do not take enough time preparing for interview. The whole process can be enjoyable, stimulating and informative for both parties. This short course aims to show you how to get the most out of interviews.

The Effective Learner Course

This course considers the importance of study skills and how we can identify and enhance our current skill set. We then take a closer look at different learning styles, and how knowledge of our own preferences in this area can make our learning more effective. Finally we will look at some basic time management techniques to enable you to plan and organise your studies and stay motivated.

Assessor Support

We provide assessor support throughout your course. Our team of dedicated, professional assessors have a wide variety of experience and expertise; highly knowledgeable in their respective fields, our assessors are trained to provide high-quality distance learning support.

Once enrolled, you will be assigned a named assessor who will offer help and guidance through your assignments, whenever needed. Your submissions will be marked to assess your progress, so you receive constructive, supportive feedback. If required, your assessor can answer any questions.

Assessment method

After each lesson there will be a question paper, which needs to be completed and submitted to your personal assessor for marking. Assignments are marked within 3-4 working days and finals, within 10 working days.

This method of continual assessment ensures that your progress is monitored and you can get in touch if you need more help. The best way to reach your assessor is by e-mail. Your query will be promptly answered, within 72 hours. Assessors can also be reached by post, or by phone, during normal working hours.
