The new way to go to university
Not everyone finds school easy. Many people don’t think that the education system is for them and go down a different path. We don’t want anyone to miss out on the advantages that going to university brings. That’s why we’re offering an alternative to getting your A-Levels, that will give you the qualifications you need to apply for a university course and then become a midwife.
Midwifery could be for you
Make a difference to people’s lives by working as a midwife. No two days will be the same, you’ll work with a supportive team and you’ll never be out of a job. You don’t have to be just starting your career to train as a midwife either. Midwifery is open to women and men of all ages.
How do you get started?
Taking an Access to Higher Education Diploma will help you to meet the entry requirements of most university courses. Stonebridge College offers Access to Higher Education Diplomas via distance learning, which means that you can study at home, follow your own schedule and you won’t be under pressure to finish your assignments.
Access to Higher Education Diplomas are structured to help students learn how to study independently. Get the confidence to work towards your degree, with the support of an expert tutor, by phone, email and Skype.
Can you afford it?
The best part of our Access to Higher Education Diplomas is that you don’t need to pay anything upfront. My name is Paris. I have 12 A*-C’s at GCSE and I’m currently studying 4 A levels with target grades of A*AAB however, midwifery is so competitive and if I wasn’t to get accepted 1st year round, would it be of use doing an access course?’
Hi Paris, this would depend on the specific course you are going for – you will need to contact your university of choice regarding this, as they will be able to confirm if an additional Access to HE course would assist you with your application when taking into account your A-Level grades. Hey I want to be a midwife but I have no qualifications and I’m in art class.how do I go about it?
If you are happy to provide us with a telephone number and appropriate time, we can have a member of the course advice team contact you regarding this.
Hi
I have previously studied at university where I completed two years of a psychology cours (over three years, year two was repeated due to extenuating circumstances), but failed to continue due to a breakdown of a relationship and other personal issues. This was in 2008-2010. I received funding and currently pay a small amount each month via my salary (I fell under plan 1) I always said I would return but didn’t.
I am now older and wiser and wish to become a midwife. I however cannot afford university fees and have received funding for three years at university as above. Is the option for me to attend to pay these fees direct myself?
I also don’t know how relevant my qualifications would be. I gained 7 GCSEs all c or above (A in English lang and B in mathematics) and I then went to college to study an AVCE in Travel and Tourism which I completed and was equivalent to 2 C grade a levels.
Thanks for any advice you may be able to provide

Hi
I am wanting to go to university to do midwifery in 2021 year as I am currently pregnant now so September 2021 I will be able to dedicate all my time towards this. I have 6 GCSES grade C and above and a have a business A level and 2 btecs but I don’t have any science or health and social care qualifications. Can you advise me in what I need to do to be able to complete midwifery?
Thank you
Hi Courtney,
As you already have A-levels, we would advise checking with the universities you wish to apply to to see if they will accept you with your current qualifications. If not, you can gain the right skills and knowledge for studying midwifery with an Access to Higher Education Diploma in Midwifery – this will demonstrate to universities that you’re committed to the subject and prepared for a midwifery degree programme.
For more information on studying with us, contact one of our career advisers on 0121 392 8288.
