Children and Young People

Written by Andy Martin

Research over time has demonstrated that children given higher quality educational provision and support in their early developmental years closes the gap between disadvantaged children and others as they grow older. In other words, children who are provided a high quality of education in their early years have a better chance at success as they grow up.

Makes sense, doesn’t it? If you are effectively taught to read and write, to explore, to imagine, and to socialise at a very young age, these skills will help you to gain confidence and to achieve more in school and throughout your life.

Quality is key to this important step in a child’s life, and staff in the educational setting with quality skills, knowledge and understanding are essential to providing that positive impact. Those skills, knowledge and understanding are most often gained through various qualifications that prepare an individual to work effectively in the industry.

If you’ve been watching our website, you’ll have noticed that we’ve recently added several new courses, one of which is the Children and Young People’s Workforce (Early Years) Level 3 Diploma (CYPW) course. This course is a full level 3 qualification listed on the QCF (QRN: 500/8979/1/ELC).

The CYPW Diploma is a new childcare qualification for all early years practitioners in the field. The Children and Young People’s Workforce (QCF) Level 3 Diploma is the only qualification that confers occupational competence for the Children and Young People’s Workforce. It has replaced all previous qualifications such as NVQ’s (including nursery nurse qualifications, etc.). It demonstrates to employers that you have the required occupational competence in early years and home-based settings; that you have the skills, knowledge and understanding required to effectively provide educational and developmental support to a young child.

If you would like to work with children in settings such as nurseries, pre-schools, reception classes in primary schools, crèches, and children’s centres, or want to be a child minder or nanny, then this qualification is suitable for you. Even if you have no previous experience of working with children and young people, this course is designed to help you build the knowledge and skills needed when working (supervised or un-supervised) with children and young people, from birth to 19 years.

In order to be awarded this full qualification you will need to successfully complete the knowledge element as well as complete approximately 100 hours of practical experience in a real work environment, where a suitably qualified person (such as the manager at your placement, qualified at Level 4 or above) assesses you for the skills element of the course.

If you want to make a positive impact in children’s futures by providing quality educational and developmental support and guidance, then what are you waiting for?
