5 Ways To De-Stress At Home

Written by Andy Martin

It’s National Stress Awareness Month and we have been searching for simple ways to help you de-stress at home …

Our home is our sanctuary and whilst it’s the place we relax and unwind, this doesn’t always mean we don’t have stresses that can consume our well-deserved downtime. So read on to find out our simple ways to de-stress at home – who doesn’t want to work on that?

From keeping up with a never ending list of chores (wash, iron, repeat – sound familiar?) to tackling our own life admin (those bills won’t pay themselves) creating the perfect balance at home is something we all strive for.

Read on and discover the top ways to help you de-stress at home:

  1. Identify Your Triggers.

The sooner you can identify your stress and recognise the triggers, you can work to eliminate them. Write them down and remind yourself this too shall pass. It also helps to talk to someone – a problem shared is a problem halved after all.

  2. Exercise.

It’s proven time and time again the benefits of exercise are for mind and body. Choose something you love to do from a yoga class to a walk in the park, whatever it is make sure it’s something you enjoy and release those endorphins.

  3.  Watch a Film.

Watching a film can provide a well needed escape from reality as you invest in another world. Choose a feel-good film and see your mood instantly lift.

4. Take a Bath.

At the end of a long day, taking a bath using your favourite products to help unwind the mind and body can instantly melt away any stresses. From candles to bath oils, creating a relaxing setting is key to really enjoy your bath.

 5. Switch Off.

Whilst it may be tempting to get in to bed and catch up on Twitter, an hour before you go to bed switch off your phone or tablet. The light given off by these devices prevents our brains from releasing melatonin (the hormone that tells our body its night) thus keeping us awake.
