A Level Economics

  • Develop critical thinking and in-depth analytical skills.
  • Explore key economic methodologies.
  • Put forward structured economic arguments.
  • Complete this A Level in as little as 9 months.
  • Study around your existing commitments.

Studying your A Level

As part of your A Level in Economics you will apply economic theory to support analysis of current economic problems and issues. You will learn the difference between microeconomies and macroeconomies and appreciate the relationships between them.

Building on your existing GCSE knowledge, you will be expected to think critically about key issues and make arguments based on qualitative and quantitative data.

During the course you will explore economic methodology, price determination in relation to production and costs, market mechanisms and more.

By the end of the course you will have knowledge in all these areas and be able to put forward strong arguments about the benefits (or drawbacks) of theories around each.

Getting Started

Stonebridge Associated Colleges is a leading provider of distance learning courses in the UK. Therefore, all our courses are completely online.

From the moment you enrol you will have complete access to all your course materials and assignments. This allows you to study at your pace. Not when you get the next set of books in the post.

There are no classes, no on campus study days. You have complete freedom to study when you want, in the way you want. The only specific deadline to work towards is your exam – exam sittings are held once per year in May or June.

You will be supported throughout your A Level course by a qualified tutor. They will offer advice and guidance throughout as well as mark your assignments. Each one will come back with clear feedback so you will know what you can improve upon.

As you progress through your course, you will study the following modules:

  • Introduction to Business & Economics
  • Economic methodology and the economic problem
  • Individual economic decision making
  • Price determination in a competitive market
  • Production, costs and revenue
  • Perfect competition, imperfectly competitive markets and monopoly
  • The labour market
  • The distribution of income and wealth: poverty and inequality
  • The market mechanism, market failure and government intervention in markets
  • The measurement of macroeconomic performance
  • How the macroeconomy works: the circular flow of income, AD/AS analysis, and related concepts
  • Economic performance
  • Financial markets and monetary policy
  • Fiscal policy and supply-side policies
  • The international economy

At the end of each unit there is an assignment to complete. Once this has been completed and submitted to your tutor he or she will respond with your grade as well as detailed feedback. Following successful completion of each unit you’ll be exam ready!
