About your Course

This course is suitable for anyone who is already qualified to work with small animals and has already completed a lower-level aquatic treadmill therapy course. Students must have completed the level 3 hydrotherapy certificate and aquatic treadmill therapy course.

Throughout the level 3 award in advanced aquatic treadmill therapy course, you’re able to develop your existing knowledge further to provide the next level of support for the animals in your care.

By conducting gait analysis, identifying abnormal postures and understanding what actions to take can prove extremely beneficial to the welfare and quality of life of the animals you treat.

The course also covers how to properly perform patient reviews to effectively monitor their progress during treatment. As well as how to use advanced aquatic treadmill techniques during therapy.

This course includes a practical day within our busy rehabilitation centres alongside our experienced qualified hydrotherapists and physiotherapists. This will give you the opportunity to use aquatic treadmill equipment on a variety of patients. You can choose to attend either our Oxford or Chepstow centres.

The centres offer state of the art equipment including gait analysis and underwater treadmills and hydrotherapy pools.

You will be required to get in and out of the aquatic treadmill some techniques require you to be knelt and sat in the water with the dog. Therefore, should you require any support in doing so, ensure this is in place and the centre is aware.

Once you’ve completed the course you will be able to expand your service offering to include advanced aquatic treadmill therapy techniques.

They will also need to have completed the Level 3 Award in Aquatic Treadmill Therapy for Small Animals. The minimum age for access to this qualification is 16 years of age.

Assessement requirements

You will be assessed via a combination of video and photo submissions, your supervisor will also need to provide witness testimonies.

Placement or Practical required

This course includes 1 day of practical training at the Woozelbears centre located in Witney.

Placement dates can be chosen to suit the learner once the threshold has been met.

Additional requirements

Learners can become a member of the Canine Hydrotherapy Association (CHA) or the National Association of Registered Canine Hydrotherapists (NARCH) following completion of this course.

Certification Timeframe

Learners can expect their certification within 6 months of completing the course, following the (EQA) External Quality Assurance of assessment.

All course fees, inclusive of all payment plans including our Premium Credit Limited option, must be settled before certification can be ordered.

Each module is divided so you can see exactly what your qualification will include. However, the assignments you complete have been designed so that you can complete multiple tasks together where possible. So you will see a different number of assignments in your personal portfolio; you will still complete the whole qualification.

Unit 1: Practical Advanced Treadmill Treatment

Upon completion of this unit you will:

  • Be able to conduct gait analysis.
  • Understand the equipment used for advanced aquatic TM techniques.
  • Be able to apply advanced aquatic TM techniques.
  • Be able to review patient performance.

Unit 2: Biomechanics and Gait

Upon completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand terminology used in hydrotherapy.
  • Understand gait patterns.
  • Evaluate normal and abnormal postures.
  • Understand the process of muscle contraction.

There will be a variety of in-depth assessments for each unit. This is to demonstrate you understand the learning objectives set in the unit so you’re able to progress. There is no exam for this qualification.
