A level 2 award in canine care and welfare teaches you the importance of appropriate care for canines in kennels or day care settings. By studying what dogs need to thrive, you’ll realise the direct correlation care standards have on their mental and physical health.

Throughout the course, you’ll learn skills that allow you to care for canines in a professional setting. As well as the responsibilities of canine carers and how to safeguard dogs against accidental harm.

You will also learn about different canine behaviours and training techniques. Plus, ways to spot behavioural or health issues and carry out a canine health check.

This course can serve as your first step towards working in a kennel or canine day care service. Providing you with the fundamental knowledge you can take straight into employment or onto higher level study.

You don't need any prior knowledge or experience, however, you will need to be aged 16 or above to enrol.

Certification Timeframe

Learners can expect their certification within 6 months of completing the course, following the (EQA) External Quality Assurance of assessment.

Upon completion of this unit you will:

  • Know suitable routines to prevent welfare and behaviour issues
  • Understand how to provide canine enrichment
  • Understand appropriate canine training techniques
  • Understand the use of force-free training equipment

Unit 2: Introduction to Canine Health

Upon completion of this unit you will:

  • Know about specific dog breeds and reasons for selecting specific breeds
  • Understand canine disease
  • Understand common canine health disorders
  • Know basic canine needs and carer responsibilities
  • Understand the basics of human and canine relationships

You will be required to create a portfolio of evidence, that you will need to submit in order to gain your qualification.
