The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) RQF qualification (500/9758/1) is the new course which has replaced the old A1\2 and D32\33 assessor qualification. The course is sometimes referred to as TAQA and it is aimed at helping students to understand assessment strategies and quality assurance procedures for RQF qualifications.

The VTCT accredited Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) RQF qualification is ideal for students who would like to be fully qualified assessors for learners in either the classroom and/or the work environment. This course will enable you to assess vocational competencies in a wide range of qualifications such as:

  • Apprenticeships
  • Functional Skills
  • Technical Certificates
  • NVQ’s
  • Awards
  • Certificates
  • Diplomas

Successful achievement of this qualification will provide sufficient evidence that you have acquired the necessary skills and knowledge to enable you to assess within vocational education and training using a range of assessment methods.

What can I do on completion of the Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) RQF Level 3 course?

Once you have your qualification you will be able to work in a number of roles as:

  • Assessing learners in a college
  • Assessing learners in a workplace

Am I required to do a placement?

As part of your course you will be required to secure a placement in a suitable environment (more advice on this can be provided by contacting the college if you are in doubt).

  • Unit 1 will be assessed through a series of assignments.
  • Unit 2 will be assessed through you practically assessing learners in a work environment and producing work products and audio visual evidence
  • Unit 3 will be assessed through you practically assessing learners in a classroom or training environment and producing work products and audio visual evidence

For units 2 & 3 you will need to secure a position or placement which will allow access to the assessment of nationally regulated qualifications.(e.g. NVQ units, RQF Qualifications, etc.). This includes one visit per Unit (unit 2 and 3), should you require more, please contact the college.

ECDL Certificate

This course is the official British Computer Society (BCS) ECDL course. The qualification has been designed to map directly into the ITQ. (for more information please see: http://www.bcs.org/category/16699). When you gain the ECDL certificate you will also receive the ITQ certification. In order to gain the ECDL certificate you must sit the exam at a registered ECDL test centre (when you search for your nearest test centre simply select “ECDL/ITQ” and “Testing only” from the available options and then click “Go Find”). Unit One: Understanding the principles and practices of assessment (D/601/5313)

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understanding the principles and practices of assessment
  • Understand the principles and requirements of assessment
  • Understand different types of assessment method
  • Understand how to plan assessment
  • Understand how to involve learners and others in assessment
  • Understand how to make assessment decisions
  • Understand quality assurance of the assessment process
  • Understand how to manage information relating to assessment
  • Understand the legal and good practice requirements in relation to assessment

Unit Two: Assess occupational competence in the work environment (H/601/5314)         

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Be able to make assessment decisions about occupational competence
  • Be able to provide required information following the assessment of occupational competence
  • Be able to maintain legal and good practice requirements when assessing occupational competence
  • Be able to plan the assessment of occupational competence

Unit Three:  Assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding (F/601/5319)

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Be able to prepare assessments of vocational skills, knowledge and understanding
  • Be able to carry out assessments of vocational skills, knowledge and understanding
  • Be able to provide required information following the assessment of vocational skills, knowledge and understanding
  • Be able to maintain legal and good practice requirements when assessing vocational skills, knowledge and understanding
