About your Course

Working with children requires not only flexibility, patience, compassion and understanding but a deeper knowledge of their developmental journey.

Children experience considerable change in their young lives transitioning from the home or nursery to school. Then the rapid ramping up of education as they progress through their school years.

As a child carer or educator, it’s important to be able to support children effectively throughout. This online course in childcare and education will provide you with the knowledge and understanding of child development and education to help you meet that goal.

If you are just starting your career in childcare (including early years, special educational needs and child minding), it will prepare you to work unsupervised or in a supervisory capacity with children and their families.

This course will cover how to keep children safe, including safeguarding, noticing signs of abuse, discrimination and health and safety.

You will also study the principles of working with children, the effectiveness of learning through play and how to meet each child’s needs. This includes nutrition, how to care for children who are unwell and promoting a healthy environment.

Getting Started

This course will provide you with an excellent foundation of knowledge to start you on your childcare career. You could continue your training to progress and develop a career in the early years, children and young people’s sector, working directly with people in roles such as a senior care worker, children’s centre worker, outreach worker or social worker.

To this end the learning outcomes of the course have been benchmarked at Level 3 against level descriptors published by Ofqual, to indicate the depth of study and level of demand/complexity involved in successful completion by the learner.

The course itself has been designed Stonebridge Associated Colleges to meet specific learners’ and/or employers’ requirements which cannot be satisfied through current regulated qualifications. The Quality Licence Scheme endorsement involves robust and rigorous quality audits by external auditors to ensure quality is continually met. A review of courses is carried out as part of the endorsement process.

The Quality Licence Scheme is part of the Skills and Education Group, a charitable organisation that unites education and skills-orientated organisations that share similar values and objectives. With more than 100 years of collective experience, the Skills and Education Group’s strategic partnerships create opportunities to inform, influence and represent the wider education and skills sector.
