Studying Your Diploma

If you currently work with cats or you’d like to as part of a new career, then gaining the knowledge needed to properly care for them is essential.

Cats are sensitive creatures both in temperament and physiology so understanding their behaviour, habits, nutritional needs and how to handle them correctly.

A Feline Care, Behaviour and Welfare Level 3 Diploma will train you to do just that. It will teach you all you need to know about feline care, from appropriate treatment in catteries to their evolutionary development.

Feline Care, Behaviour and Welfare Level 3 Diploma Modules

This course comprises of 8 compulsory units.

Unit 1: Care of Felines in Catteries

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Develop the knowledge required for the care and welfare of felines in catteries
  • Understand how to check feline health
  • Understand how to implement methods of disease prevention and control
  • Understand how to provide environmental enrichment and mental stimulation
  • Understand how to administer preventative and prescriptive medications

Unit 2: Feline Handling and Transportation

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand proper feline handling and transportation
  • Understand the principles of safe handling and transport
  • Understand the use of equipment and records in transport
  • Understand the importance of force-free handling and restraint of cats
  • Understand the techniques that reduce stress during handling and restraint

Unit 3: Feline Care

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Know how to groom cats and provide first aid treatments
  • Understand the care and welfare of felines at different stages of life

Unit 4: Feline Anatomy and Physiology

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Gain an understanding of the anatomy and physiology of felines
  • Understand the complex body processes and functions of domestic cats

Unit 5: Evolutionary Development of Felines

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Gain an understanding of feline development and evolution
  • Understand natural feline social behaviours
  • Recognise feline breeds and traits, including their impact on behaviours

Unit 6: Feline Behaviour & Psychology

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand feline behaviour and psychology
  • Understand communication behaviour in felines
  • Understand how learning theory is used in training
  • Understand psychological and physiological factors contributing to feline behaviour
  • Understand the impact of the feline-human relationship on feline behaviour

Unit 7: Feline Nutrition

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand the importance of nutrition in felines
  • Recognise essential nutrients and their importance to the health and wellbeing of felines
  • Understand the importance of nutrition at each life stage
  • Understand the benefits and impacts of good and poor nutrition

Unit 8: Legislation for Feline Law

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand the Animal Welfare Act and other related legislation specific to felines
  • Understand how to use this legislation in feline care

This course is delivered online, so all course materials and assessments can be completed from home.
