Studying your GCSE

For all we know about the human body and the natural world, we have barely scratched the surface. That is why biology is one of the most rapidly evolving fields in the world of science.

Studying Biology – either on its own or alongside the other core sciences – will help you build an understanding of the world around us. It will also give you the opportunity to study Biology at A-level and beyond.

You will study a number of different topics including cell biology, infection and response, and ecology. You will also discover how these topics are all connected.

By the time you have completed your course, you will have a comprehensive understanding of biology including key theories and principles. This will enable you to develop your knowledge further through the study of A-level or an Access to HE Diploma.

Getting Started

Stonebridge Associated Colleges is a leading distance learning college so unlike traditional courses, you don’t have to attend classes.

This allows you to complete your learning in a space that works best for you. At a time that works best for you too. The only timetable you have to follow is the one that fits around your life. Not the other way around.

Once you are enrolled on the course you can start learning straight away. All the course material will be made instantly available to you via our online portal.

That means that you can study as quickly as you choose. The only specific deadline to work towards is your exam – exam sittings are held once per year in May or June.

You will have a dedicated tutor to support you throughout. They will be on hand to answer questions and to mark assignments and provide feedback. So, you can see what you’ve done well at and what needs improvement.

Great news! To start this course there are no pre-entry requirements. To start straightaway all you need is a computer, tablet or mobile device and an internet connection!

*You will have access to the course for 12 months only. You can purchase course extensions.

As you progress through your course, you will study the following modules:

  • Introduction to Science
  • Cell biology
  • Organisation
  • Infection and response
  • Bioenergetics
  • Homeostasis and response
  • Inheritance
  • Variation and Evolution
  • Ecology

At the end of each unit you will find an end of unit assignment. This is completed online and submitted to your tutor. Once assessed your tutor will return your work complete with its final grade and feedback. Once you’ve successfully passed each unit you’ll be ready to take your exam!
