This iPET Network Level 3 Award in an Introduction to Dog Grooming course prepares you for a career in dog grooming by developing the necessary skills and techniques required.

You will learn essential grooming techniques including prep, styling and finishing. The course will also cover how to remove knots and excess hair.

You will also study how to correctly handle dogs of different shapes and sizes and how to correctly bathe them. An important part of this is understanding the health and safety best practices to operate in a dog grooming salon safely.

As part of the 5-day of practical training included in this course, students will have the opportunity to work alongside qualified dog grooming professionals inside a dog grooming school.

The 5 days of practical training, will allow students to work alongside professionals at a dog grooming school, gaining valuable practical experience.

This course features theory materials online so you can manage your work and family commitments without too much difficulty.

Please note that as a COVID precaution, it is mandatory for learners to have their own grooming equipment when attending the practical training. A comprehensive dog grooming kit is available to purchase from our practical training provider for the amount of £450. Alternatively, learners can provide their own equipment. If you decide to provide your own equipment, our training provider will need to approve your equipment list to ensure it is suitable before you attend the placement.

The iPET Network Level 3 Award in an Introduction to Dog Grooming is designed to be flexible to meet the real-life needs and circumstances of its students. It is aimed at students who wish to gain the skills and knowledge to prepare, style and finish grooming several dog breeds an understand health and safety in a dog grooming salon.

Requirements for Entry

If you have a genuine interest in canine care and a desire to start a fulfilling new career, then no previous experience or qualifications are needed. The minimum age for access to this qualification is 16 years.

The qualification includes 5 days of practical training where you will receive hands-on experience and the opportunity to apply your learning. As part of the practical you will groom different breeds and coat types. You will need to travel to our dog grooming centre located in Winsford, UK.

Please note that as a COVID precaution, it is mandatory for learners to have their own grooming equipment when attending the practical training. A comprehensive dog grooming kit is available to purchase from our practical training provider for the amount of £450. Alternatively, learners can provide their own equipment. If you decide to provide your own equipment, our training provider will need to approve your equipment list to ensure it is suitable before you attend the placement. 

Your practical training will be held at the state-of-the-art COVID-secure dog grooming training school in Winsford, Northwich UK.

During your 5-days of training, you will work alongside trained and highly experienced dog grooming professionals.

This unique hands-on experience will allow you to enhance your skill set and develop your grooming and styling techniques by practising on clients (dogs) in a safe dog grooming salon.

Throughout your practical training, you will be supervised, supported, and assessed by experienced dog grooming staff.

At the end of your practical training, you will have the confidence and expert knowledge to be able to apply for roles in the dog grooming sector.

This course consists of 2 units.

Unit 1: Health and Safety in a Dog Grooming Environment

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Learn how to promote and maintain the health and welfare of animals.
  • Study health and safety and Animal Welfare requirements.

Unit 2: Prepare, Style and Finish a range of Dog Breeds

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Learn how to effectively groom a variety of dog breeds, from preparation to styling and finishing.
  • Develop and use techniques and equipment appropriate to the coat type to remove knots and excess hair.
  • Study handling techniques to suit the dog type.
  • Learn how to safely bathe and dry a range of dogs.
  • Explore the preparation for styling and finishing techniques for different breeds and client requirements.
  • Learn how to groom dogs coat types.

 

Study and practical training

The course is available online to start at any time. The practical elements will take place over 5 days at a dog grooming school in the UK. During the practical training at one of our hand-picked training providers, you will have the opportunity to groom different breeds of dogs with a variety of coat types.

There are no pre-requisites for this diploma, however, you must be over 16 years of age to enrol.

When studying your iPET Network Level 3 Award in an Introduction to Dog Grooming you’ll be assessed internally by our qualified experts. You’ll need to provide a portfolio of evidence upon completion of each unit. 

Once you have successfully completed all your assessments you will receive your final grade and receive your certificate of completion alongside your qualification.
