About your Diploma

The Level 3 Certificate in Canine Nutrition has been designed to give you the required knowledge and understanding of canine nutrition necessary to pursue a rewarding career within the canine health and diet industry.

During this qualification, you will study aspects of canine nutrition, feeding regimes and the impact that diet has on canine health and behaviour.

This Ofqual regulated qualification is suitable whether you currently work in the industry and would like to progress in your role, or, whether you care for or work with dogs and would like to learn more about canine nutrition.

On completion of the Level 3 Certificate in Canine Nutrition, you will have the necessary knowledge and understanding to apply for positions within the pet food, canine health, and welfare industries.

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification but learners must be aged 16 or over.

Learning is delivered across 3 units covering the following topics:

  • Canine Nutrition and Feeding
  • Canine Nutritional Needs
  • The Effect of Diet on Canine Health and Behaviour

Unit 1: Canine Nutrition and Feeding

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand different canine diets within the canine nutrition industry
  • Understand canine nutrition and digestion
  • Understand the concept of feeding BARF
  • Understand home cooked diets for canines

Unit 2: Canine Nutritional Needs

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand the nutritional requirements of puppies
  • Understand the nutritional requirements during pregnancy and lactation
  • Understand the nutritional requirements of senior and geriatric dogs
  • Understand the nutritional requirements during illness, injury, and recovery
  • Understand the nutritional requirements of working and sporting dogs
  • Know how to calculate energy requirements for dogs

Unit 3: The Effect of Diet on Canine Health and Behaviour

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand how body condition is affected by diet
  • Understand how coat condition is affected by diet
  • Understand how behaviour is affected by diet
  • Know the legislation surrounding canine nutrition and canine food production

To gain the Level 3 Certificate in Canine Nutrition you must achieve 16 credits.

Each unit will be assessed by a range of in-depth theory assessments. Students will need to show sufficient evidence that they have the required knowledge, skills and understanding of the assessment criteria.

When are you assessed?

Once you have successfully completed each unit assessment you will receive your certificate of completion alongside your qualification.
