About your Course

This course has been specially designed to help parents understand and support the specific needs of children aged 6-12 years old.

Children in their middle years’ experience heightened emotions, look to gain greater independence and develop their individual identities. This can cause conflict as it can feel like the child is pulling away from the family unit. For parents, it can be a disconcerting experience and be a period of upset and stress for both parties.

This course will give you the skills you need to work with your children as they transition from children to young people.

You will learn key principles in child development, psychology and psychosocial development in middle childhood. This will provide you with a greater insight into the complex developments that children of this age group go through.

The aims and objective of this course are to provide you with an understanding of the middle years through studying a comprehensive syllabus. You will touch on confidence and self-esteem, children’s emotions and stress as well as how to manage behaviours.

Through your studies you will be able to help children and young people with emotional resilience, relationships, raising aspirations, communicate more effectively and promote engagement, achievement, and growth.

This course is suitable for parents to help broaden their knowledge as well as anyone wanting to work with children in middle childhood. This includes foster carers, teaching assistants, teachers, social work assistants, child carers and youth workers.
