The zoology diploma explores the different populations of animals, their behaviours, anatomy, physiology, distribution and classification. Expanding your knowledge on what different species need to ensure their wellbeing.

Throughout the course you’ll learn about a range of animals in existence today, exploring their origins and how they have evolved. As well as covering their functionality and their significance within their ecosystem.

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand the huge array of animal life
  • Understand the major phyla of animal life from the “simple” Protozoan and Radiate animals through to the invertebrates and vertebrates
  • Understand the history of how zoologists classified animals in the past
  • Understand how different animals are related to one another

Unit 3: Animal Architecture

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand the vast array of animal body plans from jellyfish to segmented worms, reptiles and insects
  • Understand the differences between body plans
  • Understand how each form functions

Unit 4: Mammals

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand origin and evolution
  • Understand structural and functional adaptations
  • Understand the classification of living mammalian orders
  • Understand specific examples of individual species

Unit 5: Finding Food

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand omnivores, herbivores, detritivores and carnivores
  • Understand how different animals have evolved to locate, store, consume and digest food

Unit 6: Animals and the Environment:

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand the different environments animals live in
  • Understand the geographical distribution of animals across the globe
  • Understand the importance the environment plays in evolution
  • Understand how animals adapt to natural and man-made changes in the environment

As this course is provided through an online distance learning platform, you will complete all work and assessments from home.

There are no exams to sit. Instead, there will be a short knowledge-based quiz at the end of each unit to confirm your knowledge.
