Studying your A/iA Level

You will study key elements such as atomic structure and bonding, the Periodic Table, alkanes, acids and alcohols, amongst others.

You’ll explore physical chemistry and inorganic chemistry throughout your studies and build a comprehensive understanding of both.

The modules are designed to teach you about the core concepts in chemistry.

You’ll have to take exams to complete your qualification. The exam structure will include:

  • Multiple-choice questions
  • Short and long answer questions
  • Practical techniques and data analysis

The exams are designed to put your knowledge to the test. You’ll need to demonstrate a solid understanding of scientific ideas, process, techniques and procedures. As well as analyse and evaluate scientific theory and data.

Getting Started

This qualification has been designed to cover both the AQA A Level and the Pearson iA Level specifications. This means that when you book your exams you have the choice between A Level and iA level - each have different exam structures (don't worry, we cover this in your course!). The chemistry knowledge you’ll have once the course has been completed can lead to many exciting opportunities with further study.

You’ll be able to carry on your training in a science-related field at university and become a forensic scientist, chemical engineer, geochemist and more.

Your online A/iA Level allows you to study at a pace that works for you however fast (or slow) that may be. It’s up to you. You won’t have to reschedule your other commitments to attend classes as there are no classes. Simply login and begin learning right away.

The only specific deadline to work towards is your exam – exam sittings for A Levels are held once per year in May or June; whereas the iA Levels are held twice per year in summer and autumn.

Stonebridge Associated Colleges is one of the UK’s leading online learning providers. Our courses are led by dedicated tutors to aid you throughout your learning and provide constructive feedback as well.

You’re able to tailor your studies in a way that works so you can enjoy your learning experience.

*You will have access to the course for 12 months only. You can purchase course extensions.

As you progress through your course, you will study the following modules:

  • Introduction to Science
  • Physical Chemistry: Atomic Structure and Bonding
  • Physical Chemistry: Energetics, Kinetics and Equilibria
  • Physical Chemistry: Redox, Thermodynamics and the Rate Equation
  • Physical Chemistry: Equilibria, Electrochemical Cells, Acids and Bases
  • Inorganic Chemistry: Periodicity and the Groups
  • Inorganic Chemistry: Period 3, Transition Metals and the Reactions of Ions
  • Organic Chemistry: Alkanes
  • Organic Chemistry: Alkenes, Alcohols and Analysis

At the end of each unit you will find an end of unit assignment. This is completed online and submitted to your tutor. Once assessed your tutor will return your work complete with its final grade and feedback. Once you’ve successfully passed each unit you’ll be ready to take your exam!

All instalment plans must be paid and up to date before an exam can be booked. In addition, exams cannot be booked for dates before the final payment is successfully made.
