Studying your GCSE

History is the study of key features and characteristics of our past. It is the social science of analysing events and making judgements based on the evidence.

The skills you will develop will enable you to apply your observations to the events from the past and how they link to the world today.

Your studies will focus on America's expansion between 1840 and 1895, the build up to the First World War between 1894-1918, Britain from 1170 to the present day and the English Restoration between 1660 and 1685.

Each unit will challenge you to understand the events, how they affected one another and their long term impact on society and the world.

By the time you have completed your course, you will have learned to assess the validity of sources, analyse evidence and draw reasoned conclusions on events of historical significance. This will enable you to develop your knowledge further through the study of an A-level or an Access to Higher Education Diploma.
